The Last Exorcism Movie Review
67The Last Exorcism Movie Review
The Last Exorcism is very much like The Exorcist but with the added gimmick of using a video camera to follow the action of the story and really this movie was a subtle horror film in that it wasn't really all about blood and guts instead it focuses on several vibes of demonic possession and faith in God and religion. The horror elements are deliberately underplayed for the final shock twist at the end which I didn't see coming to be honest.
The story starts off with a well known reverend who performs exorcisms around America, but this on his final exorcism decides to catch on camera all the tricks of the con that he has been involved with carrying out fake exorcisms with a range of equipment that made it look as if the exorcism was real, but this time it slowly appears that he is dealing with a very real case of demonic possession in a young 16 year old girl.
Although not with much blood really for a horror film, although you see a white Cat get ripped to bits for a nice bit of random demonic Pet cruelty but it's so random that it's just throw away moment. The bits later in the movie where Ellie the girl who gets possessed begins to get taken over by a Demonic Entity and her neck dislocates and her back too as she twists around all over the barn floor which was quite disturbing but not a patch on the Pea soup vomiting, head spinning and Spider walk down the stairs of the Exorcist.
The end is a typical shocker with all of the Towns crazy folk coming together for a nice Bonfire. All in all this was an average movie really in that it added nothing new really, just a build up that wasn't particularly atmospheric or you didn't feel that much tension before the final that the story seemed to lose something along the way. Also Eli Roth who Directed Cabin Fever and Hostel 1 and 2 also was the producer of this movie which you think oh it must be good, but it doesn't deliver in the end as in typical horror movie fashion it ends something like The Wicker Man, the horror of a Village community trying to summon a Demon (Which also was the premise of The House Of The Devil)
Worth watching for some eerie moments, but not really a classic, just a film that slips by on it's own exhaust fumes.

I've seen the Exorcist, and that really scared me. I've never seen this movie, but sounds like it's not worth my time. Thanks for the info.
Nice review. I agree with most of what you say about the movie. It was good, but not great. I also felt the ending was too abrupt. It was wirth renting, but I am glad I didn't pay full theater admission to see it.
I saw this movie not too long ago, so I was interested in what you thought about the movie. I agree that it really attempts for something, but never gets there. For me, however, the ending was one of the largest cop outs I've seen a horror movie do since the 80s. It's really bad and doesn't leave much up to the imagination.
Interesting and voted up!

Interesting review even though I avoid horror films with a passion. I get a good idea of the content of the film thanks to your review. I did see the Exorcist and the subsequent film, Exorcist two. This makes me glad that I am no longer into the horror film genre.
