Top Affiliate Marketing Failures

Advertising online is the main reason why affiliate marketing has expanded so much as there are numerous ads that I've seen through Google Ads that say "earn $10,000 in 7 days or plug this website into your arse and get rich the next day and I say balls to any of that, as I've been there and done that along time ago and in particular new people are getting wise to this type of stuff now, although there are some people who may fall for it, there are some who are naturally suspicious, because they don't want to lose money, they want to create money like the promise in an advert online.

But we all know promises don't really count for much, when there is no trust with certain affiliate product owners, so the first reason of failure is falling for the scams or the affiliate/mlm/garbage that won't lead you anywhere because they rely on you doing all of the work and you don't get anything whatsoever, whilst the main affiliate gets the traffic, the clicks and the sales for your hard work.

So do your research beforehand, find out what others are saying about specific affiliate programs and also determine the age of the affiliate program and whether they have done an update to the product as this could be useful to use in your promotional material, the last thing you want to do is to promote a program that is so shit, your momma wouldn't approve!

The second reason why most affiliates fail is because they don't treat the affiliate business like a business, they somehow think it's different somehow, like it's a separate entity that feeds itself traffic as if by magic, so becoming lazy is what the majority of new affiliate marketers do, they just set up a few links here and there in a half arsed attempt at promotion because they doubt their own marketing consciousness, so in the back of their mind, they have already failed and that is quite damaging from the outset.

The next top reason is a lack of research or even preparation of your affiliate niche, this can prove to be quite useless when you don't plan your way through the affiliate jungle as there are all sorts of other animals in the jungle that will beat you up and throw you aside, because you didn't do the research and they'll simply take over your short spot in the search engines, because you sure wrote a good few articles, but you failed to provide a back linking plan that would have made your article links stay at the top page of the search results, but you didn't prepare for it.

Your website is another reason for failure, just because you have a website up and out there doesn't mean that's the end of your websites growth, as there are such things as making your site look the part and visually appealing so that people don't feel compelled to click away, the content on your site must be engaging and almost stick

Good domain names are important for your site to appear as professional as possible and so you need to have thought out your domain name in depth and not really use the default affiliate links that much, although you can use re-directs in email marketing, so that the search engines really don't need to bother with your standard affiliate links, because they are hidden away in email marketing messages.

Above all, an affiliate marketer must be willing to learn more. Certainly, there are still a lot of things to learn and so an affiliate marketer must continue to educate himself so he can improve his marketing strategies. Many fail because they don’t grow in the business and they are merely concerned about earning big quickly. If you want long-term and highly satisfactory results, take time to learn the ins and outs of the business. Continue to improve your knowledge especially with the basics in affiliate marketing ranging from advertising to programming, web page development, and search engine optimization techniques. Likewise, study the needs and wants of your site users and how different merchandisers compete with each other.

Many people also give up before they've even started and they try another and another affiliate program, one after another and this leads to failure as they cannot stick to one affiliate and make that a success and then move on to another income stream for their affiliate business.

So my advice is, just stick it through and work on it for a few months at least.

Good luck on your affiliate marketing journey.

Yes that is very true Robert, I like to imagine all of the not so good websites dying off because they don't update their sites regularly, so it leaves space for us to get their traffic.

Some poeple don't update blogs regularly because they can't be bothered, but it does help boost your traffic and I'm glad that I have done this and kept up with it for the last 4 months as I can see that some of my sites are climbing in page rank and with traffic.

Frequent updates seem to do the most to drive lots of new traffic to a website. I noticed this about my blog too. If you post something every day it tends to get more traffic.

Cheers David & brimancandy!

Get rich quick schemes I just hate them, you can spot them a mile away and should be avoided like the plague, but they not to be confused with learning systems with which there are some great ones out there, it's just the prices sometimes are a tad too high!

Yes sometimes adding adsense to a page can do that, as it sometimes measures your word count and some relevancy is lost when the ads arrive, my advice is to go through them once again and see if your keywords are totally related to your intended topic!

Yeah. I assumed when I joined adsense that my traffic would increase. It dropped like arock.

Great information in a no-nonsense way. There does seem to be a lot of get rich quick schemes out there that promise everything and deliver nothing.

thanks

David
