Last House On The Left Remake

The last house on the left is a thriller film based on the 1972 classic film of the same name directed by Wes Craven and this film is slightly different although it plays on the same themes of the original, although not as well I think, but it got there.

The story revolves around 2 girls who try to score some weed from some guy they meet at the store called Junior and so they get some and go back to the motel where Juniors staying, but beforehand there was a car smash that freed one of the psychotic lunatics and it's the three that arrive back at the motel to find Junior with the two girls there and so they get kidnapped and then one gets murdered and the other gets raped in a very harrowing scene and then shot.

And the rest of the story is about the parents of one of the girls opening the door to these nutters, unaware for a bit of what they've done to their daughter, but they soon find out and won't let them get away with it with murderous consequences.

Although I have to mention the original, because good old Wes Craven put the 2 girls through the shit even more in that original film and that movie I would say freaked me out even more, because it was filled with shocking scenes that almost played out like some kind of snuff movie as it seemed completely realistic I remember at the time.

In the remake we see the scenes which are bad, but not as bad as the original 1972 film and so from that moment on we see the parents slowly coming to the realisation that the three escaped convicts are the ones responsible for their daughters attack and rape and the roles are reversed as the parents become the killers with violent actions that any devoted parent would actually consider if this occured on their doorstep.

Certainly the Wes Craven original was done on a lower budget and was born of that era of the 70's when films of this nature were just about to surface like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween, but without a doubt the original left more scars to the viewer than the remake, I mean nearly everyone I've talked to about it, say it left an imprint on their brains as a shocking horror film.

The end of the remake was a nice and simple revenge killing of the last of the convicts involving a microwave, although quite how they speeded to the hospital and back to still find him at the house is a little bit of a blunder that is best left saying "you're not supposed to have noticed that!"

All in all this was a worthy remake, but like they always say, why make a remake when the films already been made, although I would never watch the orignal again as it's a sick and twisted film that you only really need to see once if you like horror films and films that actually have no real monsters in it, just the human kind!
