Using Facebook Effectively

Facebook has millions of members and many of them just use it as it was intended to get and keep in touch with old school friends and family, but what can you do with a facebook profile and all of the extras that come with having a free Facebook account?

First of all Facebook is a social networking site that is a very popular site and in the last few years it has become a haven for online business with Facebook ads and other extras, such as groups and pages, like anywhere online it gets too much with people spamming or rather cramming their business onto you by friending you and asking you to join their business group that will tell them to buy something that will give them untold riches.

Actually forget all that fluff, because you may want to avoid it, but if that's your niche, then you could use it to your advantage and network with these people with no intention of purchasing their product or affiliated product, it's all about using Facebook as a networking tool between the people you friend and building relationships that will benefit you later on in your business or niche group.

People of all ages are participating on Facebook, like I said before and they all are on Facebook for different reasons than others, friendship, business or discussing hobbies and interests are the main talk of the day with this social networking site..

These social sites like Myspace and Bebo are nearly all the same in format and they have the same or similar types of applications that make it easier to connect with your contacts, providing fun and creative ways of keeping in touch and informing your friends of new updates with the status bar at the top of your profile page and in this status bar you can add what you are currently doing now or have done, how you feel or what you hope to achieve, this comes with the option of adding a photo, a link or a video to your status update.

When you first create your facebook account you have to set up your network, which is your group area, which could be the city you live in or the college/university you used to go to, it's up to you, starting with friends you may have known or do know is your best bet to get a feel for the site, before you embark on using your facebook profile as a means to communicate your business, you need to explore the full functions of the site

Your profile page is set up to promote everything that you upload to it to your facebook friends, you can create photo albums, video channels and pages of the links that you upload, additionally what you upload, automatically gets posted to your friends profile page or they get notified about it.

What's really good with other websites too is, if say you are a member of Youtube like I am, when you upload videos you can have them show up on your Facebook profile page and this is very useful indeed, in fact many sites now are choosing to tap into this social awareness to connect different sites together as they realise that no one person is just going to be a member of one community site and that's it, people like to go where their friends go and other sites offer many features that some sites don't, so it's a good thing to have social bookmarking that drives your readers around your network.

Facebook is a useful thing to use, but you have to get out of the thoughts of spam and showing everything to your friends or contacts, communities thrive on involvement and discussions and even ackowledgements of others existence, so commenting on others profiles is needed and genuine interaction plays a part in the Facebook game, it can be fun and addicting to some, but overall it's a give and take scenario that can determine whether you are a successful Facebooker.

With Facebook you can list your websites, your email address and your whole lifes history if you wanted to, but it's really about only showing what you are comfortable with, because since Facebook can be so localized, there could be some malicious ways of certain people who may live around you, so limit your information and only show what you want to be open about.

The profile page can be used as a resume or CV of your work, together with the addition of pages and groups, you can provide many different areas of work history and interesting career highlights aswell as achievements too, it certainly is far easier to get yourself out there online than it used to be, so get yourself a facebook account and use your facebook profile to your advantage..

Using Facebook

You see I was determined not to use my facebook page for profit. But then I'm a hubber, a blogger and a writer. So I think I might create a second facebook page that is to be used for blogging, marketing, promoting my business and spare my freinds from being dragged passively into my business.

Thanks Mike!

I've certainly found Facebook a good way of generating some extra traffic, especially from facebook pages, time will tell if these proves a good way of continuous traffic.

I made a Facebook page but lately I've tended to it infrequently. It is certainly a fine place to start on the quest of viral networking. I really should get back to it and say hi to folks.

Thanks for posting, Wayne.

I'm learning to like Facebook. Mostly I just check out what my friends are up to though I do put links to my Hubs there. Another great Hub, Waynet.

Cheers Robert and Nancy, I'll have to find you both over on Facebook as I am on it frequently promoting my wares like most people.

I have posted some of my art on facebook, but need to upload everything that I've done on other sites, it would be good to upload, I use facebook to keep in contact with some of my family, but also as a way of adding backlinks and a bit of promotion to it, although it can be addicting and fun to interact with people on there.

I have been on Facebook quite some time now and find it a great place to keep people up to date on current events in our country. In addition, my family and I enjoy the each other with the games etc. Promote, well I must confess once in awhile I do…Great article as always…

Cheers and congrads on reaching 700 fans!

I stay out of the games but have a lot of friends and followers there. It's great for connecting again with folks I knew on eBay when I was more active there. Posting good art regularly seems to attract more followers that I didn't know before too, the images attract people interested in the subject. So that may work for you whenever you post new art to your Facebook album.

It helps to have multiple albums for "photos" vs. "art" so that people know what's being updated if they don't want to see photos of your cat but love your landscapes.

Cheers Tattooguy!

Yes Facebook is a great promotional tool that I've sort of mastered a bit, slightly, nearly, almost! I can see the potential of it and how it relates to other sites.

700 fans, I thought it was cold in here, must turn the heating on!

Cheers!
