How To Blog

Blogs are online journals which document any type of content online and contrary to popular belief are easy to set up and maintain and are the best content management systems to write on and gather your niche content all in one place for you and your readers.

Most blogs will have all sorts of built in features that allow you to post videos and MP3 podcast content as well as the standard photo and website links and other fonts and formats and so the medium of blogging can become anything you want when you want as some bloggers prefer video blogging instead of writing long posts or they may do a mix of both, I suppose it's just a personal preference.

Blogs typically have the following features:

  • A Title - which is the most important labelling and attention grabbing part of blog posts.
  • The Body - Actual content of your blog post.
  • The Track-back - Relevant sites can link back to your blog, which is a good feature.
  • A Permalink - All blog posts have or should have a search engine friendly URL.
  • The Comments - Readers and blog visitors can comment on specific blog post content.

The main advantage of writing to a blog is that the way it is set up, you can create a new blog posts easily and each blog post is like a new page, so all you have to do at the beginning is to write good quality content, because it gets archived automatically anyway, as that's what a blog essentially is, although you could add other things to make your blog more organized with blog plug ins, such as the recent post and category plug ins if they aren't already available on your blogging platform.

There are a few blogging platforms that anyone can join to start your own blogs and they are mainly:

Wordpress

Blogger

Typepad

And what bloggers would do is become a part of that blogging community and you could link up to other blogs by way of commenting on them if relevant, as blogging is a social medium that needs interaction to grow and become something more of a relevant blog community.

Blogging has now become way more than a personal journal with many people writing about such niche focused topics that provide such in depth knowledge and topics that are aimed at others who are interested in the same types of content and this is how blogging groups or networks are formed initially, through a common interest that forms a readership.

But there are many bloggers out there now who are using their blogs to advertise their business, combining social media tools with a view to sharing in as many online spaces as possible to capture a wider range of readers and also they may be writing blogs to highlight current world news as it happens and some predict that this will replace TV news very soon as the Internet is big and there is only room for more blogs online.

The blogging boom ill not slow down it seems with the entrpreneurs spirit being high in many first time loggers who are out to make either a lasting online business or just a quick buck, as there are many bloggers now than say 5 years ago, markets are becoming increasingly competitive and to get ahead there are many things that you have to learn about blogging to be one step ahead of others out there and advertising on blogs and selling your own products from your blog is a great thing to aim for.

The most popular angle that many bloggers take with their blogs though is one of a journal type of blog, were they document a daily routine, through opinion and industry news and even rants about life and the struggles of losing socks and only being able to find single socks in the house ( I'm sure someone has blogged about that lol!) Blogging is simply an easy way to express ones self in a world where everyone it seems is crying out for some attention.

And what's great about this is that when you write a blog post, say about blogging tips for the amateur anyone who reads your blog article will be able to comment and join in a discussion which they may highlight some points that you may have missed out and that is the main reason why blogging is a good social platform to gather new ideas and thoughts that help bring an interactive feel to your blog as well as new content.

There are a vast amount of blog directories you can access on the web and these provide an insight into what topcs are being blgged about and what may be popular, Technorati is a good example as you can find allsorts of blogs listed on there which you may find useful to scan through and study if you are unsure of what blog to start up and write core content about.

Blogging is really easy to set up and one of the things I recommend is to just set up some test blogs first in the beginning in the niche that you want to target and test all the features out that it offers, one of the best is Blogger as it is slowly gaining new features and I predict will rival Wordpress much more prominently in the future, mainly because Google owns it and they have enough resources to pour into the blogging platform too

I work with real estate agents so they are trying to win visibility in a truly competitive industry, thus, they have to blog a lot. I always tell them to recycle their emails minus personal information to take full advantage of the time they put into writing.

Blogging is a great thing to do for many reasons online, I like the ease o use of blogger and wordpress, not sure about typepad, but yeah, Blogging has it's uses and writing new content is a breeze usually, if we don't have that dreaded writers block.

Brilliant hubpage and I like the linked resources at the end of your article, nice touch and thank you very much.
