Selling On Ebay - Simple Basic Know How

Start Selling On Ebay

Selling anything on eBay may look incredibly easy to some, but it's not, it can be quite a daunting task and require some knowledge on how to list items and write the listings properly and that's what this hub page is about!

Obviously as this article assumes you are a complete beginner with eBay we shall start with the basics, so first you need an eBay account so you can sell ....duh!

Then once you have an account it is best to just explore the site yourself and see what you can find and how the site runs, this is what I do with most new sites I join, because if there is information to be found about how to use eBay, then eBay itself will have it on their site.

But generally speaking you have to have a basic understanding of how to write item listings that are going to be found through a combination of keyword phrases and exact product titles, don't just assume that they will get found on eBay because it will somehow magically find and display your item listing to eager buyers, as there is that element of competition like everything in life that you must overcome or do as others do see how others list the same products as you and if they are moderately successful like they have good bids, then steal their listing formats, no perhaps steal is a harsh phrase to use, maybe borrow, there that sounds better!

An image of the product is key for making that buyer inspect your products description more closely, if an image can catch their eye, then throw in a good title too, maybe a product specific(like product make) keyword search able title that fits nicely with the product image.

I would only add one image as you don't want other fees cutting into your profits, because they all add up those nasty listing fees, only consider adding extra listing features if you are selling a large priced product, because then you could reasonably justify the expense.

Test some low priced items first, because you don't want to throw yourself in at the deep end with 50 to 100 products, as you'll need to keep an eye on your email for any item queries and purchase details, you can increase your product listings to as much as you can handle later once you gauge the market for your auction items.

When I first started to sell my tattoos online, I tested different sets of tattoo art that were aimed at different markets I suppose you could say, just to see if they could sell, back then and I remember making one sale out of something like 12 flash sheet sets which was absolutely rubbish indeed, but bearing mind back then I didn't know much about keywords and listing the titles and words that people were searching for to find the tattoos, so I went back and re-listed them with a more planned approach, almost tactical in a way.

And if a little bit of planning means you having to research the right keywords then do it, because this is how you can get used to selling almost anything you want to online, if you constantly configure and test your listings against what are the bestsellers on eBay, then you are putting yourself in a position to sell whatever you want and this may make you more confident in making this a business by buying and selling combined through your eBay account.

So to recap.

Once signed into your eBay account, create a listing with a product image of what you want to sell and write it as if you are a customer so that from that angle you can determine the right phrases and words to use in your listing title and descriptions.

This may seem like all there is to it, but it's not you have to know and understand all about prices of posting and packaging too in your country, so you can reflect the correct shipping rates to your item listing, as once you have done this, you can calculate after all the fees and the shipping has been accounted for, your total profit, bear in mind that the buyer will be paying the shipping fee, so make sure it is accurate.

If you are technically amazing and godlike you can create an ecommerce website that integrates your eBay listings into your website too, but this is usually for those that have lots of items to list, such as retail stores who create an extra website to capture online sales.

Or if you prefer not to sell through ebay, why not join the eBay affiliate program and earn money from their recently re-launched Quality Click Pricing Program, which pays you per click on a valued click through.
