How To Draw The Hulk

 The hulk is one of my fondest comic book memories as a child and they way he has been drawn by some of the best comic book artists like Jack Kirby, John Romita Jnr, Erik Larsen and my favourite comic book artist Dale Keown.

The hulk was created after a gamma radiation explosion exposed Dr Bruce Banner to the full blast of the exploding gamma rays and so in times of anger Bruce would transform into the Hulk, a huge green giant who would always retain his top half of his trousers for some odd reason and it always used to be purple trousers, who wears purple trousers?

As a kid I used to try and draw the hulk, practicing here and there by drawing the full Marvel cast too, but the Hulk was always a favourite because he just gets angry and throws tanks around with the "Hulk Smash" and "puny humans" that he was often quite fond of saying.

Drawing the Hulk became easier over time as the more you draw, the more you learn about drawing muscles and anatomy of the standard comic book form, I soon found myself enjoying drawing again after a brief flirtation with drink.

 When I always try and draw the hulk or some other large muscle bound creature, I always keep the form in mind because that is a big part of the hulks design, as he has no real superhero costume, just raggy pants most of the time.

Plus drawing muscles in all the right places is good practice for drawing any other types of figures and they look really powerful too.

 Really just an extension of the first step, building on the drawing of the hulk with more detail and muscle definition, I add all the details I can at this point as I want to ink it in the next stage as quick as possible, so that replicating drawing new concepts become faster each time, because there is only so much time in a day, we want to maximize our end results that much quicker as an artist.

Adding ink to the hulk drawing is your chance to change things a little, and to add some other lines that will benefit the Hulks form, a good sense of light and form could prove useful, but this is not important if you want to do this on your computer and colour your Hulk drawing in.

I find inking your final drawings as a way to finalize the drawing and round it off by creating permanent lines that appear darker and print well if you need some more copies.
