Grim Reaper Art: How To Draw The Grim Reaper

The grim reaper is one of them iconic creations that is often depicted as the main image of death and this is a dark spectre of a figure that doesn't often change that much through the Centuries. A dark robed figure with a skeletal appearance and a scythe for the reaping of the souls of the soon to be dead.

Here we will go through a drawing process of drawing a Grim Reaper figure. A basic but hopefully inspiring way of drawing the Dark figure of death in a three step process which may be expanded upon with a more detailed hub at some point. So let's begin....

I make this sketch quite rough at first, so as to change it later on and at this stage we can change anything that we don't like. So don't worry too much about how it looks in the beginning as you can alter the design as you progress with the drawing. Sketching is the very important stage of finding your art and how you want to produce a layout that you are happy with, so if you feel you're not getting the happy vibe from your earlier sketches, then just start over and relax.

Darkening the lines to your grim reaper works alot better here and the line art looks quite good against the white background.

I like to think of an inked drawing as a chance to make the reaper character solid and more darker as a grim reaper should be. This particular drawing looks like the Grim Reaper is floating onto the paper from the right handside. I use black gel ink pens mostly, but you could use any good quality ink pens that are available from good art shops. Uni-ball ink pens are some of the best ones that have medium to fine tips for thicker or finer inking. Test out a few different makes of ink pens before inking.

Shading is the compliment to the inking stage as it deepens the drawing with depth and tone, I like adding tone and even colour to my drawings, you however can do whatever you want with your reaper drawing.

Shading helps to darken areas to seperate them from other parts.
