How To Draw Goblins
69Drawing Goblins
Goblins are those little ugly and grotesque creatures that are similar to orcs and often green in colour with battered pieces of armour borrowed from the ancient and retired goblins.
Goblins are smaller people and so the characteristics are almost child like, when drawing them it is best to draft out a few goblin ideas first. One classic film that inspires me to draw goblins is Labyrynth as that film is very brian froud concept heavy and the goblin designs are just a fantastic resource, you can see then following few sheets of goblin head designs I drew whilst watching this classic fantasy film.
Goblin Head Sketch Concepts
Quick Draft Goblin Sketch
Step 1: Drafting A Full Goblin
Sketching through the process of geometric shapes and with a light pencil, you can begin to create figures of any size that you want. The process I use to draw ost things with is by sketching figures with cylinders and circles to mark out the joints and create a sense of form.
Details as ever aren't important at this stage, it is the figures pose and stance that matters to set things up for the detail later on.
Goblin Sketch Development
Step 2: Sculpture Building Your Goblin Sketch
A good sketch is like a sculpture and so we build the image up as we want to see it or imagine it, from head to toe we fill out the goblin character basics with more defined pencil lines that suggest a helmet, armour and dirty goblin clothing.
A lot of the intended design of the goblin should start to show through here.
Inking Your Goblin Drawing
Line Art With Ink On The Goblin
Adding the ink is the best bit for me in a drawing, since I am a fan of the comic book style of drawing, I think it finishes off a drawing nicely sometimes if you elminate the pencils and ink over them to create a solid line art, although with some drawings you draw, inking might not be an option.
After you have inked the goblin drawing, you can erase the pencil lines to make it very clean and professional looking.
Finished Goblin Art
Shading Your Goblin Is An Option
Shading your goblin art can make your drawing look even better, although this is optional, you can seperate alot of the armour and other goblin design elements by shading or adding dark areas here and there, establish the light source for this.
And there we go, a finished goblin drawing.

Very inspiring article, I just read this one to my family. We had a lot of fun reading it. I like that your language is unassuming and inviting, but still has a lot of detail for more advanced artists. Well done Waynet!
