Movie Review Of Hobo With A Shotgun

I originally saw this after seeing it listed on Amazon which is quite unusual for me as I often know about classic and cool movies that come out but this one escaped my radar, so I bought it and absolutely loved it. It stars Rutger Hauer as an old Hobo who really just wants to buy a Lawnmower and start his own lawn mowing business, but he arrives in a very violent Town that is rife with crime and murders taking place in broad daylight to which he finds it absolutely disgusting.

One day though he snaps and instead of buying that Lawnmower he buys a Shotgun and starts cleaning up the streets of all the scum. This is a fun movie that is just mad really and totally out of control with the violence which is typical of a Grindhouse movie which just exists because of the violent deaths contained within the movie. There are some over the top lines of dialogue that I'll have to listen to when I watch this again as they made me cry with laughter and the bad guys are totally over the top too.

The throw away attitude of the 70's has been revived with this movie as the other fairly recent Grindhouse offerings from Tarantino in Deathproof and Rodriguez in Planet Terror only scratched the surface, although there is another great movie from Robert Rodriguez and that was Macheti which also made me laugh for it's over the top violence and couldn't give a rats arse attitude.

Rutger Hauer is on top form in this movie as he hasn't really been in a decent movie since The Hitcher, although Blind Fury was quite fun! For some reason Hauer fits the role of a homeless bum and plays it well and when he dispatches the bad guys he just creates a cool and stressed screen presence all in one. So if you are looking for a dvd to buy then Hobo With A Shotgun sounds insane, but you'll know after watching it that it is actually insane, especially two villain characters called The Plague as they sounded like Demons or something.

Don't forget to watch the movie trailer to make up your mind.

I love Hobo With A Shotgun! And I love it just because of how bad it is with the violence and dialogue. Of course, I can only watch this movie when I am a little less than sober, or else I get sick to my stomach haha

Good review!

A great review on a interesting movie! i saw it once, for the experience, but don't think I'll be watching it again. It did feature some quality acting and memorable moments, and it really does fit into the whole "Grindhouse" genre.
