Dread - A Movie Review

Dread was another of Clive Barker inspired short stories which has been made into a movie and this is more of a psychological horror which draws heavily on some characters fears in the movie. The horror in this story draws on the fears of the central five characters after one of the main characters we find out that he went through the childhood trauma of witnessing his parents being brutally murdered and so his fear is based on this.

As with most Clive Barker movies there is a gross moment were a woman who hasn't eaten for days after being locked up is left in a room with some rotting meat for company and she's a vegetarian shock horror! Dum Dum Dum! and she eventually caves in and starts to eat the green rotting meat with maggotts falling off it yuck!

Two of the main characters decide to do a study on fear, but for one of them it's a personal obsession which feeds their own psycho fantasies as they become the controller of fear. The movie wasn't bad although it dragged slightly at the beginning and it tried to make you wonder quite feebly who was going to turn out the nutter, but you knew who it was all along and it's that insider view that seems to create the atmosphere within the movie. The twist at the end is play it safe and quite frustratingly leaves an open end to the film which is quite chilling right at the end.

With this renewed interest in bringing some of Clive Barkers short stories just like Book Of Blood And Midnight Meat Train to the big and small screens it's quite fun to see the stories fleshed out and given form in a full length movie. As psychological thrillers go, this one is good!

Don't forget to watch the film trailer below if you haven't seen this movie!
