Basic Drawing For Kids
The basics of drawing for kids is quite easy to get going, because kids already want to explore, it's just the process of getting started that they may need help with, as that classic phrase comes to mind with kids, What to draw? and you'll find that they will start drawing after a few prompts from you, all they need is a few ideas and away they go.
But first to start, you will need a few good quality pencils, some paper and even art markers to draw with, sounds obvious, but sometimes kids want to get started straight away so it's best to have all of your drawing equipment all in one place so you don't have to stop and go on a pencil hunt or a paper finding safari.
Children like anything that they can recognize such as animals, so suggest these first, but from then on it's best to try and have a few more suggestions under your belt, just in case they either get bored of drawing animals or they say they can't draw an animal right, so here are a few more suggestions:-
- Space Rockets or spaceships
- Boats
- Birds
- Trees
- Cars, buses, trains aeroplanes and helicopters
- Imaginary stuff like Castles, Goblins and Trolls
- Spiderman
- Peppa pig
- Princesses
- Warriors and Knights
What you really want though is to be there for your kids when they need a little bit of help drawing, I set some time away at the weekends and on holidays to do some drawing and craft work with my kids as they really seem to appreciate the time and some of the drawings that you help them with.
The basics of drawing could include faces, objects such as swords or tools of some kind and so the focus could be on how to draw this stuff from the ground up, the foundations of drawing are an important thing if your child is serious about drawing and they want to develop, but even if they do it for fun, then that's ok, also encourage your child to observe real life stuff too to draw from as there is lots to see in the world and to try and draw interesting things like rocks and tree branches that you may find on your travels, helps children develop their artistic nature if they decide to pursue it in the future.
Kids drawings can be as complex as they want them to be, some kids get frustrated that they can't draw that well, but I tell them that to be an artist it's about learning and growing as there is lots to learn and practice so keep at it and some see my drawings and they think wow!, but then I tell them that when I try to draw cars or some realistic stuff they don't believe me, but I say yes it's true because I've avoided drawing that sort of stuff for years.
All that kids really need is a good imagination and from there they can draw whatever they want.

Interesting hub! and a great way to keep the kids interested in drawing. Will pass this to my kids. thanks.
I like that picture!! Nice hub. :)
thanks Waynet
I will have to go back through my hubs and update them. I am good at writing my hubs, but never really got onto the adsense part of it.
I don't have an ebay or amazon account, how do I get those set up?
I dont have any ebay ads of my own, all of the advertisers on my hubs are what pops up when i finish the hub. I don't have any control of what goes on there, also I don't know how to source ones that pay
So do you have your OWN Ebay stuff that shows on your ads? I was looking to get click thrus, that is my main concern to generate a steady flow each month
I might not have phrased my question correctly. I noticed in the middle of your blog you have all kinds of advertisers IE "pencils for kids" and stuff. When I write a hub the advertisers come to my hub automatically, but I never get any money as a result of click through. I do get a lot of traffic to my hubs however, I think it's the way I am set up with advertisers, or NOT setup?
Nice Hub Wayne
How do you get the advertisers you have on your hubs? I've never figured that out yet. I've written so many hubs but want to go to the next level
demand as a demon? and ill like some heads up to draw demons =]
I have a daughter who is into drawing. This kind of stuff is really helpful
lol hey nice thank i was kinda mad cuz i had a day without drawing nuthing and this helped me my dad never spents time with me and my mom the same and im alone trying to draw things trying to inpress them and i cant just do nuthing =\
Interesting article. Some good stuff there! I'll drop back in later to re-read in detail.
Very interesting, I work with a kid who loves art. I will definately have to try some of these.
My Daughter enjoys drawing very much. My son, not so much.
I am hoping this will help him.
Thanks.
no horror for kids +
Great ideas. My kids are all artist wanna be's and this will certainly give us something to work on.
I always enjoyed asking kids to draw a scribble on a piece of paper, taking no more than a second to do it. Then I help them pick shapes out of the scribbles and turn it into a drawing. I found this works to help kids conceptualize how similar shapes can be found in many objects. It also helps them to loosen up and not be intimidated by a stark white piece of paper.
Encouragement goes a long way, also.
Thanks, Wayne. Guess I'll go round up some kids and teach 'em how to draw later!
Mike
Wish I had the talent to do that but I don't think it's ever going to happen!
Thanks for this interesting Hub. My eight-year-old daughter is becoming quite an artist and so I will show her this page. Hope she gets some new ideas from it.
Love and peace
Tony

Cheers now!
Getting the kids to draw something is the first step, but having something to do for the kids is the next as they do get bored quite quick!!
