Draw Science Fiction: Draw A Robot

 Drawing a robot can be quite fun and I've had a go before on a previous hubpage here How to draw a robot and I learnt a few things about the actual creation process of such a robot creation. Firstly the secret is in the beginning sketches, like I've said countless times in my other drawing tutorials and really the draft drawings are the exciting times of a drawing as it either works it doesn't, but generally speaking most times if you focus on what you want to draw it usually happens just as you've imagined.

I've been inspired over the years by many variations of robot, from the simple droids of Star Wars to the more complex Mech warriors in manga comics (And I'd love to draw a Mech warrior!!) but this robot is sort of like a smaller upgrade to what I've previously drawn, it's like an evolution and I'd certainly want to draw more complex robots that require a bit more planning ad draft layout work to make them look correct.

In the following two drawing videos I go through the process of sketching the robot figure first to get it right and then the figure gets fleshed out as the second video shows the figure becoming more solid and has a certain design to it. What I liked about creating this two part video project was the whole process of seeing something come together without thinking too much about it.

Drawing a robot can be quite fun if you plan your first sketch first, try different possible figure poses for your robot, I just opted for a standing straight arms down kind of pose, although I didn't draw the bottom legs as I thought I wouldn't get to fit them in on the page, so I just drew in the top part of the robot and removed the need for humanoid hands and gave him a pair of cannons on each arm, drawn quite simply, but you could draw them with extra guns on and try and make the guns more heavy weight with lasers and bullet belts attached and all that cool stuff.
