Drawing Demons by Wayne Tully

Demon drawing

When any artist tells you that drawing one specific thing is freedom, they are probably true to their word, in this particular case I draw demons alot and they are the single most main thing I draw consistently over and over with little effort, because the more you draw something the better you get at it.

Take the sketch to the right for instance, it took me a few minutes to draw in my 100 plus sketchbooks, and I draw these demons with great enthusiasm and energy like I'm trying to create a real character.

Sketching horror and evil creatures is like looking into your nightmares for inspiration, so why not make it count and draw something demonic and evil if that's what you like.

Tips For Demon Drawing Inspiration.

When drawing your demons, it is best to be inspired by some on hand reference material or a recent nightmare to fuel your art.

Other ways to be inspired are to watch the television alot, this may sound silly at first, but if you are of a creative mind, then the most mundane things will spark off your imagination, maybe from a news/current affairs program or a discussion program.

I myself, am a simple sort and mostly need to have some ideas infused in my brain, so I watch all my favourite horror films back to back, such as evil dead 1 and 2, braindead, bad taste and many more, occasionally though my mind surprises me and I gain an idea from watching something totally unrelated to what I want to draw and bang the idea is there and I begin to draw monsters and allsorts of demons.

Drawing a demon is fun when you can see the drawing come together, it's a design process which can be easily done with a good amount of planning and draft sketching beforehand. Good design skills come from drawing a wide variety of different things and so it's with drawing from life that the fantastical creatures can be drawn from our imagination.

Maybe that's just my style of art, so many other professional artists just get lost in adding unneccesary details to their art and they make a living out of it!

I like to add details to my drawings so that I appear like I'm on top of all that sketchy stuff.

Once I can control my time that little bit much better, I can fully concentrate on better drawings.

pretty awesome. but i have 1 question. in most of ur drawings they have some skin on the sides of their mouth, why?

also why do u use so much random unneeded details. such as small dents on its skull and bone parts. i know its fanatasy but its just kinda wierd. anyways pretty good demon head. keep up the good work.

Sure I have many suggestions, here goes first draw loosely and lightly with the lightest pencil you can find draw a rough head shape usually an oval kind of shape, I always place the eyes first so that I can then match everything else around the eyes, when I'm happy with the structure of my drawing I work in some darker pencil lnes to define the shape of the head more.

I also have a great tip and this is just to use your imagination, but when starting a drawing try to look for imperfections on the papers surface and try to follow these tiny dents in the paper, more often than not your drawing can be already started this way, it's just like looking at the clouds in the sky for inspiration.

anyway thanks for viewing, cheers!!
