Movie Review: Kick A$$
63Movie Review Kick Ass
Kick Ass was a fun movie based on a comic book and adapted as such. Based on a Mark Millar written and John Romita Jr artwork comic of the same name, Kick Ass starts out as a geek who has dreams of becoming a superhero, whilst he doesn't have any powers, he just relies on his gut instinct when eventually he decides to order a wet suit off the Internet that will be his superhero costume.
The road to being a superhero goes downhill for our hero as he gets stabbed and involved in a hit and run as he attempts to stop two guys trying to steal a car, when he eventually gets out of hospital and has to have metal plates in various parts of his body and with damaged nerve endings, he just thinks it's like some kind of cool Wolverine thing and carries on being Kick Ass.
His next heroic deed sees him battling some thugs, again extremely bad super heroics, so don't try this at home kids. But he gets videoed saving the day and it gets put on YouTube and his popularity is signed and sealed. It's not until he gets involved in his third outing as a superhero that things get serious as he finds a couple of other superheroes who have been at this a bit longer and are better than him.
Of course the baddies get a good beating and not really by Kick Ass, it's by an 11 year old called Hit Girl and her Dad Big Daddy (Who looks a bit like Batman....ever so slightly!) Hit Girl throws knives and shoots guns aplenty in this movie and it's a great role reversal as you think it would be more on Kick Ass and it is in a way, but it's Hit Girl who steals the show really, but then Kick Ass saves the day at the end.
I enjoyed this film and it really was a great adaptation of the comic book and Nicolas Cages turn as Big Daddy was quite fun too as he has a few shades of the old Batman from the 60's TV series I thought at times which was just too funny. The comic book violence is what makes this film cool too as no one thinks twice about jut wounding the bad guys anymore, they are slaughtered and quite rightly so, in a film that abandons the police getting the vigilantes, instead it focuses more on the bad guys get squished, the end.
The geek gets the girl in the movie, but nearly gets killed in the process of the final act, until Hit Girl comes to the rescue. If you like the comic book movies real, instead of all this fantasy stuff then Kick Ass may be for you if you haven't seen it yet!

Thanks for the review. Been in such a bubble I had not heard of this and I love superhero movies. Off to watch, thanks again :).
The title didn't really reel me in but after watching it I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Great flick!

The preview got me interested, but I'm so glad that this movie had plenty of cool surprises - (unlike the Scary Movie series where there's not much more to watch besides what's in the trailer!) not least of which was Chloe Moretz (she's definitely one to watch in coming years!).. her chemistry with Nicholas Cage as Big Daddy totally made the film more than just a kick ass (no pun intended) movie.
