Classic Etch-A-Sketch

I remember the classic etch a sketch, hours of entertainment before the likes of video games caught my attention, the prospect of creating drawings of practically anything you could think of on a screen that sat on your lap with two twisting knobs to drawing straight lines here and there.

Drawing using an etch a sketch brought back many memories for me as a child, I used to stay and my gran and grandads for summer holidays and other school holidays and there was an etch a sketch waiting for there that was at least twenty years old, I used to draw houses and cars on it and just get lost in the etch a sketch world.

And I am surprised to see the etch a sketch still going strong and available to buy still after all of this time, of course there are cheaper versions which are not worth the money which rely on magnetic filings under the screen, it is best to invest in an etch a sketch as they are just so classic and indeed quite retro in the use of them that you can still have hours of fun drawing with them.

I bought my son and daughter an etch a sketch to share, which was a mistake as they argue over it, so I'll have to fork out for another one so they have one each to draw with. And with my kids I see that same fascination with this most basic of drawing inventions.

I am amazed by the drawings you can do with an etch a sketch, I always thought of them as basic drawings that you could do, like boxes of this and boxes of that and simple stuff, but on re-visiting these great drawing toys I am in awe of their drawing power and so much so now that I think I am going to buy myself one, never mind another one for my son.
