Family Movie Reviews: Alvin And The Chipmunks

 Alvin and the Chipmunks, based on the cartoon that I used to watch when I was a kid, it tells the family friendy story of a down on his luck song writer called Dave who tries his best to write some catchy songs which his Jet Records producer Ian just doesn't like, until one day 3 talking, singing Chipmunks called Alvin, Simon and Theodore arrive at his door, at first they cause him trouble and trash his house, but he's ok with that because he seems a slob anyway at first.

The squeeky voice chipmunks are funny and the first movie is definately for kids, even the 2nd film was good too, but when they start to sing, everyone seems interested in them,probably more like a novelty act because they are talking and singing and even dancing chipmunks who become top earning superstars (only in films this would happen...suspend your beliefs and believe!)

I watched this film recently with my kids and we liked it very much, I'd hazard a guess that I enjoyed it more than the kids, but don't tell anyone shhhh!

What I usually like about these sorts of films when they blend live action with computer generated characters. Well these Chipmunks almost look real and they are believable, although the story is the usual standard predictable fare that does the rounds in Hollywood films, a down and out reject of life who becomes famous because of his chipmunk friends who then have a small hiccup when they think he doesn't want them around, you know the usual plot device that the writers think we love lots, but since it's for the kids then I suppose a lifes lesson must be written in.

This was a great family movie, although I grew up watching the cartoon. this film is for the kids, because Alvin and the Chipmunks said so!
