Blog Marketing Tips

When starting out to market your blog it isn't really that hard to do, but it does take up most of your time, that's why it is best to have all the tools to share your work on your blog, because when you write great article content then it will get shared all around the Internet by your readers and this is why you do need to set up your blog the right way, as getting readers to your blog is a nice thought, but if your blog is complete turd, then all the marketing won't retain those visitors like you hoped.

Update your blog

Updating your blog is perhaps one of the best things you can do, as many do not update their blogs enough with new content and so people read what's there and expect other blog posts to arrive in their rss feeds or email notifications and they don't, so what other probloggers recommend is to update your blogs often and stick to the same posting schedule so that any new readers will and previous subscribers to your blog know when to expect new posts each week.

You could create a content schedule plan, to plan ahead for the content that needs to be published and now most good wordpress or even blogger blogs, you can schedule blog posts to be published at a date that you set, which is great if you go on holiday for a week and want to queue up your posts so that it appears that your blog posting is seamless and you are a slave to your blog, even when you're away.

Use The Trackback Feature

The track back feature is a great one to have as people read and find the information interesting, they want to link to it with their own blog or even a blog post that is highly relevant to the one they've linked to and this is a good way of someone else's blog targeting their readers to you and if the site is really relevant, I like to return the favour and track back too, it makes sense to form partnerships like this and who knows you may get involved with the other blogger as a joint venture partner or help each other further with traffic in the future, so use your track backs.

If you have a google account, you could add a site map to your blog and what this basically does is it lets google know more easily about new content that gets published on your blog and is able to crawl your site much more quicker, lots of other webmasters recommend getting a site-map for your website whether it's a blog or some other site, this makes sense to have your new web pages indexed far quicker, so check it out in your free google account as they tell you how to add a site-map, having Google on your side is a good thing.

Link exchanges/ One Way Links

Exchanging links is a good idea, although many other webmasters will tell you that exchanging links isn't really working that much anymore, but I prefer the idea that linking to sites you like, but nothing that looks like a spam site, but also don't discount the possibility of one way links to high authority sites too, these high sites can have page ranks of PR 4, 5, 6, 7 or above, so look out for them and set some time aside to do this every week.

Authority sites are sites that are well established in the search engine results and are well worth linking to and who knows they may not be open to exchanging links at first, but if they realise you are linking to them, they most likely will return the thought, just remember to link to a site, it has to be highly relevant to the topic, it's no good if your site is about wooden cloggs and you link to a site about grandad slippers, it won't be relevant.

Double Check Your Post Formatting

Making sure that your blog posts are correctly formatted and optimized for the search engines is what is the most important part of blogging and you need to get this right, but also the look of each blog post has to be clearly written and well organized, with bullet points were appropriate and good English and grammar too, as these are good factors that might make a difference in the search engines indexing of your site and plus you want readers to be able to read and access your content with ease and not wreck their eye sight with bold-ed and coloured freakish and ugly content.

So make sure that everything is tagged, your content with the relevant keywords, any images with good keyword optimized alt tags and keyword labels and tags for your blogs labelled categories

Looking at your stats/analytics

To know where your visitors are coming from on the Internet is very useful to know and with Google Analytics you can do just that, but you can also find out what keywords they used to arrive at your site, what site they used to get to your site and other really useful metrics that track the visitors location by country all over the world, by looking at you stats often you are not marketing your bog by pure guess work alone, you are using a free tool to know which keywords are bringing in the traffic that your blog needs to get more readers and you will also know which keywords are not working for you, so that you can drop those for now and work on the ones that do work.

RSS Feeds

RSS feeds is one of the best ways to get your content read too, by having a subscribe icon at the top half of your blog for anyone to subscribe to, you are allowing your blog to be potentially all over the Internet with the links going back to your blog, as there are RSS feed aggregators which automatically publish your feed on other relevant sites or when someone subscribes to your blog through a feed, they are able to publish that feed on other sites manually too and that gives you extra exposure too

Blog marketing is not tough, but it does take some consistent effort on your part as the blogger, so don't waste time by letting your blog slip, set yourself a goal and write a plan and just blog away and use these tips to get your blog ranked high in the search engines.

Although there are other blog marketing tips which I've left out, like blog commenting and guest posting on other blogs, it is worth remembering that to focus on your blog as a business is the best thing you can do.
